macOS 27 Golden Gate: What is compatible?
The macOS 27 Golden Gate should be released mid-September. This newest version requires an Apple Silicon Mac and supports for all remaining intel-based models.
· MacBook Pro: All modelswith M-series chips (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 and newer)
· MacBook Air: All modelswith M-series chips (M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 and newer)
· iMac: 24-inchmodels (M1, 2021 and newer)
· Mac mini: Models withM-series chips (2020 and newer)
· Mac Studio: All models
· Mac Pro: Models with Apple Silicon (2023and newer)
If you are currently running the macOS 26 Tahoe version, support included all Apple Silicon Macs plus, the 2019 -2020 Macboook Pro, 2020 iMac, and the 2019 Mac Pro. Intel users will receive security patches for a couple more years but will not be able to upgrade to macOS 27.

So, what does this mean for your Mac?
If you're using an older Intel-based Mac, this is something worth checking before the new macOS arrives. Your Mac may continue working perfectly well, but you won't get the new macOS 27 features if your model isn't supported.
The easiest way to check what Mac you have is to click the Apple menu > About This Mac. You'll be able to see your Mac model, year and processor. If you see an M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 or newer Apple Silicon chip, you're on the right track for macOS 27.
What about Intel Macs?
Don't panic if you're still using an Intel Mac. Your Mac doesn't suddenly become unusable just because a new macOS version is released. Intel Macs can continue to be used, and Apple is expected to continue providing security updates for some time.
The main difference is that newer macOS features and future versions will increasingly be focused on Apple Silicon.

If your current Mac is getting a little old, now could be a good time to check your options. Before buying a new Mac, it's worth checking exactly which model you have and whether it's still receiving software updates.
And if your Mac is experiencing problems such as slow performance, battery issues, overheating, screen problems or charging faults, it may be worth having it checked before deciding that you need a replacement.
